Mandya, July 19: A 10th standard girl student committed suicide by hanging herself in the classroom during school hours at Chaitanya Vidyaniketan High School at Kodimaranahalli in KR Pete taluk on Thursday.
The student is identified as Sangeeta (14). During lunch hour, the girl committed suicide in the classroom. Her parents alleged that she committed suicide because of the harassment from the management and the teachers.
The parents said that as their daughter got less marks in 9th standard, the teachers and the management have been forcing her to take transfer certificate and join other school. Apart from this, a teacher was misbehaving with her, they said.
Upon knowing the incident, people from surrounding villages rushed to the school and protested against the teachers and the management. They said that the school has been taking hefty donation and when asked, they were denying any information. The teachers were not teaching the students. Girl students were being harassed in the school, they alleged.
BEO Betta Nayak, circle inspector HB Venkateshaiah, Kikkeri PSI R Siddaraju, ZP former vice president KS Prabhakar and others consoled the mother of the girl and assured of getting justice to her.

Thrissur (Kerala) (PTI): At least five people, including two children, were killed and as many persons injured when a truck ploughed into the roadside tent where they were sleeping in this central Kerala district early on Tuesday, police said.
The victims, nomads living in tents set up along the highway, were struck by the truck on a national highway in Nattika, under the Valapad police station limits, at 4.30 am, they said.
The injured have been admitted to Thrissur Government Medical College Hospital, with the condition of two individuals reported as serious, police said.
Among the deceased are two children, aged one-and-a-half and four years. Two women were also killed.
The driver and cleaner of the vehicle have been taken into custody, police added.
