Chickmagaluru: NSUI activists on Thursday staged a protest  at the AIT college circle here demanding ban on ABVP organisation as its workers of Puttur unit have allegedly rang raped their classmate and videographed the act in mobile phone and uploaded on social media.

The agitators said that the sexual abuse was an insult to the entire civilised society. Dakshina Kannada district was known as the district of literates in the state. But, in the same district, a gang of miscreants have inhumanly gang raped a girl. Prima facie, it's confirmed that the accused were belonging to ABVP organisation and five students of this organisation have gang raped their classmate. Though the police have arrested all the five accused, they could be let off from punishment due to influence of their political background. So, without yielding to any political pressure, the police should ensure punishment to the accused, the agitators demanded.

The accused are studying in the Swamy Vivekananda College of Puttur and the collage has ABVP influence. They have gang raped their classmate and they do not deserve forgiveness. For a safe future of the girls in colleges, the government should ban the organisation in the state, they said alleging that the incident has proved the attitude of its leaders who term the women as sisters and mothers in public speeches. These leaders must first teach the status of women to their activists," the NSUI urged.

Sangha Pariwar organisations have always been ill-treating the women and girls. One couldn't expect protection to the women from this organisation. Keeping in mind the injustice meted out to the girl, girls and women who are part of this organisation should come out of the outfit and fight against this crime, NSUI activists appealed.

They warned of intensifying the protest across the state if the state government failed to ban the organization.

After the dharna, the agitators submitted memorandum to the state government and the Governor through the Deputy Commissioner. NSUI district president Adil, leaders Pawan, Azar, Maharaj, Nihal, Saif, Raghunath and others participated in the dharna.

Lucknow (PTI): Kolkata Knight Riders edged Lucknow Super Giants via Super Overs in a battle between two bottom-placed teams in the IPL, here on Sunday.

Chasing a modest 156, LSG suffered a batting collapse and managed to tie the contest and take it to Super Over with No. 9 Mohammed Shami striking a last-ball six against a wayward Kartik Tyagi, who leaked 16 runs in the final over.

But Sunil Narine bowled a stunning Super Over conceding just one run and taking two wickets to give KKR an easy target.

Rinku Singh then finished the chase with a boundary off first ball from Prince Yadav.

Earlier the KKR were in deep trouble with 93/7 in 15 overs but Rinku smashed a sensational 83 not out from 51 balls including four sixes in a row in the final over to lift them to 155/7.

Cameron Green (34) was the only other batter to reach double-digit scores as KKR suffered a familiar batting meltdown with Mohsin taking his maiden fifer.

In reply, LSG continued their dismal show with the bat to succumb to their fifth loss in a row.

Brief Scores:

Kolkata Knight Riders 155/7; 20 overs (Rinku Singh 83 not out, Cameron Green 34; Mohsin Khan 5/23). Lucknow Super Giants 155/8; 20 overs (Rishabh Pant 42). KKR won via Super Over.
