Bengaluru: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has approved the introduction of a new superfast train service between Bengaluru and Mumbai, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya announced on Saturday.

Sharing the update on X, Tejasvi Surya said, “I have good news for the people of Bengaluru and Mumbai. For the past 30 years, only one superfast train – the Udyan Express – has been connecting these two major cities, taking over 24 hours to complete the journey.”

Due to the lack of options, most passengers were forced to depend on expensive bus services or flights, making travel costly and inconvenient. Surya noted that there had been a long-standing demand from people of both cities to introduce additional train services.

“Over the past four years, I have repeatedly raised this matter in Parliament, during PAC meetings, and in discussions with the Railway Board Chairman and the Railway Minister. Today, this demand has finally been approved,” he said.

Calling it “astonishing” that two of India’s most important economic hubs had only one direct superfast train for decades, Surya revealed that Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has now decided to increase lane capacity at both Bengaluru and Mumbai railway stations.
