Davanagere: The city witnessed two incidents of tension related to posters of Shivaji and Savarkar put up near the site reserved for the Ganesha idol, giving rise to tension on Thursday night. Police intervention, however, alleviated the situation, bringing it back to normal by Friday morning.
A police complaint was filed by some residents that a picture of Shivaji defeating Afzal Khan might disrupt communal harmony. The banner was pulled down and replaced by a poster featuring only Shivaji.
In a second instance, the members of the Veer Savarkar Yuvakara Sangha in Mattikal had installed a poster of Savarkar near the pandal for the Ganesha idol. The police, however, visited the site and directed the organization members to pull down the banner.
A verbal spat was witnessed as the members refused to do so but the argument intensified by midnight. The police officers discussed the matter with the Sangh Parivar members, after which, the situation returned to normal.
