Bengaluru: Lorry owners across Karnataka have gone on indefinite strike starting Monday midnight in protest against the hike in petrol and diesel prices and toll charges.

GR Shanmukhappa, President of State Lorry Owners’ Association, said that the truck owners are demanding revision of petrol, diesel and toll rates. He also said that the protest is being supported by not only truck owners from outside the state but also petrol pump organizations.

“More than six lakh trucks will be off the roads from Monday midnight. Trucks coming from outside the state will be stopped. All types of services, including commerce, will also be disrupted,” warned Shanmukhappa, adding, “We will not stop our strike until our demands are met.”

Referring to check posts, the President said, “The government will be urged to permit the movement of heavy vehicles at the borders by clearing check posts. Our protest, therefore, will also be carried out at the check posts, and we will stop airport taxis, sand transport trucks and goods vehicles.”
