Tumakuru: The JDS leader and former MLA H Ningappa reportedly resigned from the JDS party on Tuesday.

The former MLA has submitted his resignation to the JDS state president C M Ibrahim, it is learned.

After three consequent electoral losses, he was elected for a Vidhana Sabha seat from the Kunigal constituency in 2004. In his tenure of 40 months, he is known to have consistently undertaken developmental works here.

In the background of D C Gowrishankar being granted the JDS ticket for the election in 2013, however, Ningappa had contested from KJP but lost in the said election.

He rejoined the JDS party during the 2018 election. Disheartened by the behaviour of the leaders in the party, he tendered his resignation from the JDS on Tuesday.

According to speculations, Ningappa is anticipated to join the Congress party soon.

Mangaluru: Two girl students drowned while bathing near the Kolyadakatta dam area of the Gundya river on Friday evening here in the Kadaba Taluk of the district.

The deceased have been identified as Arpita (15) and Sunita (21), both residents of Vimalagiri in Kutrupadi village.

According to reports, five girl students had visited the river along with their friends as it was a holiday. While bathing in the river, the two students reportedly entered a deeper portion of the water without realising the depth and began drowning.

Those accompanying them tried to rescue the duo, but were unsuccessful, leading to the tragedy.

After receiving information about the incident, Kadaba Police Station personnel visited the spot and conducted an inspection. The bodies were later recovered with the help of local residents.
