Two arrested for strewing nails on road leading to Datta Peetha in Chikkamagaluru
Chikkamagaluru, Dec 16: Two people have been arrested for allegedly strewing nails on the road leading to Datta Peetha during the recently held Datta Jayanti here with an aim to create trouble for pilgrims, police said on Friday.
The accused have been identified as Mohammed Shahbaz (29) and Wahid Hussain (21), both residents of Dubai Nagar in the district headquarters town of Chikkamagaluru.
According to Chikkamagaluru District Superintendent of Police Uma Prashanth, people had complained that there were lots of small nails strewn on the road for three kilometres from Kaimara check-post to Datta Peetha during the festival held between December 6 and 8
The police registered a case on their own and started investigation, the officer said and added that Shahbaz and Hussain from Chikkamagaluru were arrested.
During preliminary interrogation, the duo revealed that they saw people celebrating the festival in a grand way by putting out posters and banners, Prashanth said.
"Since people were celebrating Datta Jayanti in a grand manner, they (accused) thought this should not happen. They decided to strew nails which will puncture the tyres of vehicles and disrupt vehicular movement. They wanted vehicles to stop and the pilgrims to suffer," she explained.

Vijay unable to prove majority, not invited for CM oath ceremony: Sources
Chennai: Actor-politician Vijay has reportedly not been invited to take oath as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after failing to demonstrate support from the required number of MLAs, sources in Raj Bhavan said.
According to media reports that quoted sources in the office of R.N. Ravi Arlekar, Vijay could not prove the backing of 118 legislators, the majority mark in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Despite last-minute efforts to secure support from the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazagam (AMMK), and an IUML legislator, Vijay reportedly managed support from only 116 MLAs, falling short by two members.
Sources said Vijay failed to submit letters of support from the VCK and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).
Later, the IUML issued a statement clarifying that it was not part of the TVK-led alliance.
Meanwhile, AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran is also said to have informed the Governor that his party would support the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) instead.
Earlier in the evening, Vijay had met Governor Arlekar and staked claim to form the government, stating that he enjoyed the support of 118 MLAs.
