Gangavati, May 20: Both BJP and JDS-Congress workers engaged in a clash during the latter’s celebration of inviting HD Kumaraswamy to form the government after the resignation of Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa. In this clash, two workers sustained injuries.

After their bike rally, the JDS-Congress workers were celebrating at Valmiki Circle. At this time, some people said to be the workers of BJP, attacked the JDS-Congress workers who were in celebration mood. In the incident, two persons Rajaavali and Mohammad Yusuf were injured and they were admitted to Gangavati government hospital.

The JDS-Congress workers took out their bike rally in CBS Circle, Gandhi Circle, Sri Krishna Devaraya Circle and Valmiki Circle, shouting slogans. At this time, they confronted the BJP workers and engaged in verbal duals which led to the skirmish. At this time, some of them have tried to set the motor bikes ablaze. But the police took the situation under control. Though the situation is under control, police have taken security measures to maintain law and order situation.

As the tension prevailed in the town, police have closed all business establishments and deployed police personnel in sensitive areas like Killa Area, Mahaveer Circle, Valmiki Circle, Ambedkar Circle, Bannigida camp and other places. Along with this, street lights were switched off. SP Anoop Shetty camped in the town. Police sources said that 40 persons were booked in related to the incident.

Latur (PTI): A minor girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by an 18-year-old man in Latur, leading to the arrest of the main accused and owners of two cafes where the crime occurred on December 4, police said on Saturday.

Police traced the girl within hours of registering the complaint. The accused, identified as Rihan Gulab Shaikh, was arrested based on the girl's complaint. Two others are owners of two cafes where the crime occurred, police said.

 

Police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), POCSO Act, and the Prevention of Atrocities Act, an official said.
