Mysuru, October 03: “Mahisha was a popular king. He was working for the welfare of his state. But the history was misinterpreted. It was just an imagination that he was a demon. If he was a demon, why Mysuru was named after him”, asked rationalist Prof K.S. Bhagawan.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, he said that the statue of Mahisha atop Chamundi Hills should be demolished. In place of it, another statue of Mahisha, in the form of Buddhist monk should be installed. Then Mysuru kings had set up the demon-shaped Mahisha statue by listening to the Purohits, he alleged.

No others have criticized Hindu religion like Swami Vivekananda, who termed Brahmins as demons. Buddha had opposed the inequality. But through Sri Rama, Brahmins had called Buddha as a thief, he alleged.
