Bengaluru: The VVPATs found in a makeshift shet at Managuli village in Basavanabagewadi taluk of Vijayapura district are only empty boxes, Vijayapura DC clarified.

 A private news channel had reported on Sunday evening that eight VVPATs were found near the National Highway in Managuli village. Following which, the Vijayapura DC and SP visited the spot and carried out the investigation. They found eight VVPATs empty boxes in a temporary shed made for road construction. Barring them, there were no VVPAT machines were located on the spot," the DC said.

 There were no Unique ID numbers on available on recovered VVPAT boxes. Also, these empty boxes are not belonging to the Vijayapura district. The 2,744 VCPATs that were distributed to the district are safe and secured in the Strong Room. Basavanna Bagewadi Tahsildar has been instructed to file an FIR in regarding the recovered VVPTAs, the Deputy Commissioner said.

Latur (PTI): A minor girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by an 18-year-old man in Latur, leading to the arrest of the main accused and owners of two cafes where the crime occurred on December 4, police said on Saturday.

Police traced the girl within hours of registering the complaint. The accused, identified as Rihan Gulab Shaikh, was arrested based on the girl's complaint. Two others are owners of two cafes where the crime occurred, police said.

 

Police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), POCSO Act, and the Prevention of Atrocities Act, an official said.
