Bengaluru: Former Prime Minister and JD(S) supremo HD Devegowda on Thursday asserted that the coalition government between his party and Congress was formed due to pressure from Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and that he himself was not in favour of forming the government.
“Congress senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad held my hands and pleaded that Kumaraswamy should become the Chief Minister. I personally was not in favour of forming this government. It was pressure from Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi that led to the formation of this government” Devegowda said while addressing press conference at the JD(S) office in the city.
Devegowda’s statement come in the wake of media reports suggesting that former and co-ordination committee chairman Siddaramaiah has sought his party high command to withdraw support from Kumaraswamy government as it is denting the image of party in the state.
“Our party leaders and members will not issue any adverse statements in media and elsewhere and the image of coalition government will not be damaged by them. I will focus strengthening party. I don’t wish to comment on this issue further” Devegowda added.
Devegowda further stated that he has asked Rahul Gandhi to not resign from the post of Congress President when the met last week in Delhi.
