Bengaluru: MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal has taken objection to the selection of award-winning writer Banu Mushtaq to inaugurate the Mysuru Dasara 2025 celebrations, sharing his displeasure on social media.

Yatnal posted on his ‘X’ account on Sunday that while he greatly respected writer and activist Mushtaq, but offering prayers to Goddess Chamundeshwari, the deity of Karnataka as a part of the inauguration of Dasara would be in contrast to the writer’s religious ideology.

“Islam prohibits idol worship and also permits only one god and one holy book. Banu Mushtaq should clarify if she still follows this ideology or if she has accepted that salvation can be attained through multiple ideologies,” he has demanded.

The MLA further stated that, while it would not be acceptable for Banu Mushtaq to inaugurate the Dasara celebrations without such a clarification, there was no objection regarding her participation in the literary and cultural programs during the event, also as a guest during the inaugural program.
