Bidar: Forest, Environment, and Ecology Minister, and District In-charge Minister Eshwar Khandre, launched a scathing attack on BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal, accusing him of making derogatory remarks about cultural icon Basavanna.

“He is not only a joker, but mentally ill and should consult a mental doctor,” Khandre said addressing a press conference in Bidar on Sunday.

The Minister stated that, Yatnal’s remarks ‘Basavanna committed suicide by jumping off a tree,’ is a despicable act to say that he is a coward. He complained that Yatnal made such a statement about Basavanna to please the RSS.

“Yatnal has made such a statement because he has acquired a great intellect during the time of destruction. Basava devotees will give the right response to this. Protesting for personal greed, internal party disputes and selfishness is all a drama. The BJP, which is seeking Basavanna's votes, is sitting quietly as if saying 'Maunam Sammati Lakshanam' (silence means consent). Even though he has made derogatory statements about Basavanna, they(BJP) are not speaking, Basava devotees are hurt and have demanded that the BJP should answer this,” he stated.

He also alleged that the BJP is not at all concerned even though Basavanna was insulted. He said, “It looks as if they(BJP) have released Yatnal to insult Basavanna. In this regard, I will speak to CM Siddaramaiah and insist that a case be registered and action be taken against the leader.”
