Bengaluru: Police have arrested a youngster in the city for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death on Tuesday for rejecting his marriage proposal, as her family would not let an intercaste marriage.
The incident took place on Wind Tunnel Road within the jurisdiction of the Jeevan Bima Nagar Police Station.
The arrested youngster Dinakar Bawala, who worked in a laboratory near Domlur, and the victim Leela Pavithra are both learned to be natives of Andhra Pradesh.
Police sources said that the youngsters had been dating for the last five years and decided to get married. Leela’s family, however, objected to the relationship due to difference in caste. Leela’s parents also restricted her from speaking to Dinakar.
An upset Dinakar stopped Leela when she was exiting her office on Tuesday under the pretext of speaking to her, but stabbed her repeatedly and at multiple points, including the stomach, chest and neck.
Leela died on the spot due to very heavy blood loss, the police added.
A case has been filed at the Jeevan Bima Nagar Police Station and investigation is on.

Bengaluru (PTI): A fire broke out in a multi-storey commercial building here on Friday evening, following which two people who were trapped on the terrace were safely rescued, officials said.
The incident occurred at around 5.30 pm at a commercial building located on Coles Road, they said.
However, no casualties were reported, officials added.
According to officials, the blaze started on the terrace, where a pantry and storeroom are located. The situation led to panic as the building is located adjacent to a petrol bunk, raising fears of a possible explosion.
Two people trapped on the terrace due to the fire were rescued by a police team along with Fire and Emergency Services personnel, a senior police officer said.
Four fire tenders were pressed into service, and after nearly an hour of intense firefighting, the blaze was brought under control.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, police said, adding that further investigation is underway.
