BCCI Media Rights bid stands at Rs 4244 crores for 5 years
Mumbai: The top bid in the online auction of the Indian cricket board's international and domestic media rights for the period April 15, 2018-March 31, 2023 stands at Rs 4,244 crores, it was revealed on Tuesday.
The bid is in the Global Consolidated Rights (GCR) category, which comprises the worldwide television and digital rights to international cricket hosted by the BCCI in India.
The initial bid was Rs 4,176 crore before it reached Rs 4201.20 crores.
The online auction began here on Tuesday. The bidding process will continue on Wednesday.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), through its Invitation to Tender (ITT) had invited bids for Global Television Rights plus Rest of the World Digital Rights Package, Indian Subcontinent Digital Rights Package and Global Consolidated Rights Package.
The bid submission process began at 10 a.m. and following scrutiny, Star India Private Ltd, Reliance Industries Limited, and Sony Pictures Networks India Private Limited were found eligible to submit online financial bids.
The online auction began at 2 p.m. with all three qualifying bidders actively engaging, the auction went on till 6 p.m., the scheduled close for the day.
The BCCI is being assisted by MJunction Services Limited, Deloitte Haskins & Sells LLP and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas to ensure the highest level of compliance.

Man sets fire to gas cylinder on truck in Kerala's Kottayam, held
Kottayam(Kerala) (PTI): A 33-year-old man climbed onto a parked truck carrying cooking gas cylinders and set fire to one of them near Thalayolaparambu in the small hours of Saturday, police said.
The incident occurred around 12.30 am, they said.
The fire and rescue personnel soon arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire, averting a major disaster.
According to police, the man is suspected to be under mental distress as he claimed that he was walking from Ernakulam to his home in Marangattupilly here when he saw the truck on the roadside.
An FIR under sections 329(3)(criminal trespass),324(2)(mischief),326(f)(mischief by injury, inundation, fire or explosive substance) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was lodged against him.
Police said that the man was formally arrested, but will be released on station bail as the offences he is accused of are bailable.
"His family is here at the station and he will be released to them," the officer said.
In the FIR, police have said that the man opened the seal of one of the gas cylinders and set fire to it with the knowledge that his act was dangerous to those living in the area.
According to the company transporting the cooking gas cylinders, it suffered a loss of Rs 2,300 in the incident.
