Ahmedabad, Feb 9: India defeated West Indies by 44 runs in the second ODI to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series here on Wednesday.

Invited to bat, India posted 237 for nine and then returned to dismiss the West Indies for 193 in 46 overs.

Shamarh Brooks (44) was the top-scorer for WI as Prasidh Krishna (4/12) and Shardul Thakur (2/41) emerged as the most successful bowlers for the hosts.

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav scored a 64-run knock while vice captain KL Rahul missed his half-century by one run after being run out as India posted 237 for 9.

Deepak Hooda, who made his ODI debut in the previous match, scored 29 while all-rounder Washington Sundar contributed 24.

For the West Indies, Alzarri Joseph (2/29) and Odean Smith (2/36) took two wickets each.

Belur: A 40-year-old man has been arrested in Rajanasiriyur village of Belur taluk on charges of dowry harassment and allegedly murdering his wife.

The accused, identified as Madhu, was married to 34-year-old Channamma for the past 15 years. According to police sources, the couple had frequent disputes in recent years, and family members had intervened on several occasions to resolve their differences.

Madhu is also accused of harassing Channamma for dowry despite her family having purchased an auto rickshaw for him earlier.

On February 18, Channamma was allegedly assaulted by her husband and sustained serious injuries. She was admitted to the district hospital and underwent treatment for nearly a week. However, she died on February 25 after failing to respond to medical care.

Following the incident, a case was registered at the Halebidu Police Station. Police officials visited the village, conducted an inspection and took Madhu into custody.

Further investigation is in progress.
