Bengaluru: According to recent reports, Virat Kohli is likely to resume his role as captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Kohli, who led RCB from 2013 to 2021, is expected to step up to fill the leadership gap following Faf du Plessis’s tenure.

The franchise reportedly hopes Kohli’s return as captain will bring renewed focus as they prepare for the mega auction, scheduled in less than a month. RCB, which has yet to secure an IPL title, reached the playoffs multiple times under Kohli's captaincy, including a close title attempt in 2016 when they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final.

With Faf du Plessis stepping down, Kohli is anticipated to lead a refreshed squad. The franchise is also considering new talent, with players like Shubman Gill and possibly Rishabh Pant reportedly on their radar for the upcoming auction.

Kohli has previously expressed his commitment to RCB, indicating he intends to remain with the team until the end of his IPL career.
