10 dead, 30 injured after car plows into a crowd in New Orleans
New Orleans, Jan 1: Ten people were killed and 30 injured when a vehicle drove into a crowd on New Orleans' famed Canal and Bourbon Street in the first hours of New Year's Day, according to NOLA Ready, the city's emergency preparedness agency.
New Orleans police earlier said they were responding to a mass casualty incident, including fatalities. NOLA Ready advised people to stay away from the area.
It said the injured had been taken to five local hospitals.
The incident came toward the end of New Year's celebrations in New Orleans and hours before the kickoff of the AllState Bowl, a college football quarterfinal held in the city's Caesars Superdome, with thousands expected to be in attendance.

Vitla: Men posing as ED officers visit beedi company owner, dupe him of Rs 30 lakh
Vitla: A beedi company owner in Bantwal taluk was recently duped of Rs 30 lakh by a group of men claiming to be officers from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) who were conducting a raid on his house.
The group visited the house of Sulaiman Haji situated at Narsha near Bolanturu within the jurisdiction limits of Vitla Police Station late at night and declared before Sulaiman, who owns ‘Singaari Beedi’ company, that they were ED officers. Coming in a car with a Tamil Nadu registration, they were apparently paying a ‘surprise visit’.
Conducting a raid on the beedi company owner’s house for up to two hours, they are learned to have looted Rs 30 lakh kept in the house.
Vitla Police, who were informed of the incident, paid a visit to the house and held an inspection.
