Tampa, FL: An American Airlines flight bound for Phoenix narrowly avoided a major accident on Wednesday morning when one of its tires exploded on the runway seconds before takeoff from Tampa International Airport.
A video capturing the incident has gone viral. The footage shows Flight 590 taxiing on the runway just before 8 a.m. when suddenly, the right-side tire burst, causing fire sparks and sending a trail of smoke into the air. Despite the tire explosion, the plane continued taxiing before coming to a stop at the end of the runway.
Emergency vehicles quickly arrived at the scene, and all 174 passengers and six crew members were safely evacuated. No injuries were reported. American Airlines spokesperson Alfredo Garduno confirmed that the plane was returned to the terminal and that passengers were accommodated on a replacement flight. The incident did not affect other flight operations at the airport.
In a statement, American Airlines said Flight 590 "experienced a mechanical issue on the runway prior to taking off." The airline expressed regret for the disruption caused to customers' travel plans and apologized for any inconvenience.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) noted that the crew reported "multiple blown tires" and announced an investigation into the incident. The FAA confirmed that passengers were safely deplaned on the taxiway and bussed to the terminal.
"American Airlines Flight 590 aborted its takeoff from Tampa International Airport around 7:50 a.m. local time on Wednesday, July 10, after the crew reported multiple blown tires. Passengers were deplaned on the taxiway and bussed to the terminal," the FAA stated. "The flight was headed to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The FAA will investigate. Please contact the airline for additional information."
The quick response by the crew and emergency services ensured that all passengers and crew members were safe, averting what could have been a serious accident.

Beirut, Nov 24: Hezbollah fired at least 185 rockets and other projectiles into Israel on Sunday, wounding seven people in the group's heaviest barrage in several days, in response to deadly Israeli strikes in Beirut while negotiators pressed on with cease-fire efforts to halt the all-out war.
Meanwhile, an Israeli strike on a Lebanese army centre killed one soldier and wounded 18 others on the southwestern coastal road between Tyre and Naqoura, Lebanon's military said. Israel's military expressed regret and said the strike occurred in an area of combat against Hezbollah, adding that its operations are directed solely against the Hezbollah group. The strike was under review.
Israeli strikes have killed over 40 Lebanese troops since the start of the war between Israel and Hezbollah, even as Lebanon's military has largely kept to the sidelines.
Lebanon's caretaker prime minister, Najib Mikati, condemned the latest strike as an assault on US-led cease-fire efforts, calling it a “direct, bloody message rejecting all efforts and ongoing contacts” to end the war.
