Bangkok: Dr. Ronald Colaco, Prominent NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist, was honoured with the ‘AsiaOne Global Indian of the Year 2022-23’ award on February 21 by the AsiaOne Magazine, in association with ETNOW, ZEE TV and CNBC.

The award ceremony, held at Hotel Marriott Marquis in Bangkok on Tuesday, was attended by more than 20 ambassadors of various countries in Thailand.

Dr. Colaco joins the list of several other prominent achievers of Indian origin who have received this award, including Nobel Prize winning economist and philosopher Amartya Sen, CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadella, CEO of Pepsi Indra Nooyi, and chairperson of Reliance Foundation Nita Ambani.

Contributions of Dr. Ronald Colaco across various fields:

Government sector:

Dr. Ronald Colaco has been contributing to the welfare of police department and has provided funds for the construction of two police stations. He also provides aid to several police stations in the state.

He has donated towards construction of top-class "Vakil Bhavan" (Lawyers' Chamber) in Bengaluru.

Similarly, he has contributed to providing basic amenities to various offices of Revenue Department, apart from contributing to the Panchayat Raj building, PWD, Zilla Panchayat, Corporations and construction of roads, among others.

Education sector:

Dr. Colaco has contributed to construction and renovation of various government schools. He has also provided basic amenities to over 30 government schools in the state.

Healthcare sector:

Dr. Colaco also actively takes part in various healthcare programmes as donor.

Religious sector:

Despite being a spiritual Christian himself, Dr. Ronald Colaco's social services were never inspired or shadowed by religious lines.

He has donated generously to the places of worship of all religions, including the Muneeshwar Temple in Bhovipalya, Bengaluru, and to the Suryanarayana Temple in Mangaluru.

He has donated to the reconstruction of the 700-year-old Maddoramma Temple in Singarihalli, Bengaluru.

His donations also include contribution to construction of over 35 temples, mosques and churches across Karnataka.

Dr. Colaco has, on various occasions, helped people in construction of houses, and given aid to farmers.

He has also actively participated in establishing and construction of Konkani Arts Centre, Maand Sobhan Konkani and World Konkani Centre.

Individual assistance:

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Colaco provided 20-item ration kits to over 18,000 families, apart from donating towards the Karnataka Government's COVID relief fund.

He also encourages individuals in the field of arts and sports and organizes mass marriage programs for the needy and poor.

He has provided aid to programs for the safety of women, construction of toilets, bus stops, crematoriums and to provide drinking water to people above religious lines.

He has played a key role in the establishment of the first Kannada Bhavan outside India, in Bahrain.

Civic honour in Mangaluru on 24th February

A grand civic honour will be conferred on Dr. Ronald Colaco for receiving the Certificate of Excellence from World Book of Records, London, on Friday, 24th February, at the Father Muller Convention Center near Pumpwell Junction in Mangaluru.

Dr. Ronald Colaco completed his initial studies from Bengaluru before moving abroad for employment. He worked at various top-level companies before beginning his entrepreneurship and business. He has always maintained that he had made a commitment at a very young age to dedicate a part of his earnings for social services and, to this day, sticks by it.

He was awarded a professional doctorate from the European International University, was nominated for the Canara World Missionary and was also honoured by the Canada government. He recently received the Certificate of Excellence from World Book of Records, London, for his social services and is involved in several charitable works, along with his wife Jeen Colaco.

J R Lobo, former MLA and chairman of the Civic Honour committee, said at a press meet on Tuesday that Dr. Colaco's services to the society have earned him several awards and recognition at national and international level.

“Hence we should all come together in honouring him with Civic Honor,” Lobo said.

Ranchi (PTI): A 25-year-old man, who works as a butcher, allegedly strangled to death his live-in partner and chopped her body into 40 to 50 pieces in a forested area in Jharkhand’s Khunti district, police said on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Naresh Bhengra, was arrested.

The matter came to light after around a fortnight after the killing when a stray dog was found with human body parts near Jordag village in Jariagarh police station on November 24.

Bhengra was in a live-in relationship with the deceased, a 24-year-old woman also from Khunti district, in Tamil Nadu for the past couple of years. Sometime back, he returned to Jharkhand, got married to another woman without telling his partner anything and went back to the southern state without his wife to join her.

"The brutal incident occurred on November 8 when they reached Khunti as the accused who had married another woman did not wish to take her home. Instead, he took her to a forest near his house at Jordag village in Jariagarh police station and chopped the body into pieces. The man has been arrested," Khunti Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar told PTI.

Inspector Ashok Singh who investigated the case said the man worked in a butcher shop in Tamil Nadu and was expert in slicing chicken.

“He admitted chopping the body parts of the woman into 40 to 50 pieces before leaving those in the forest for wild animals to feast on. The police recovered several parts on November 24 after a dog in the area was seen with a hand," Singh told PTI.

Singh said that the woman, who was unaware of his marriage, pressured him to return to Khunti. After reaching Ranchi, they boarded a train on November 24 and headed to the man's village.

"Under a plan, the man took her to Khunti in an autorickshaw near his home and asked her to wait. He returned with sharp weapons and strangulated her with her dupatta after raping her. He then cut the body into 40 to 50 pieces and left for his home to live with his wife," Singh said.

The woman, however, had informed her mother that she had boarded a train and would be living with her partner, the police officer said.

Following the recovery of body parts, a bag was also found in the forest with the murdered woman's belongings including her Aadhaar card. The mother of the woman was called at the spot and she identified her daughter's belongings.

"The mother suspected the man behind the crime who after being nabbed by the police admitted to chopping the woman into pieces," the official added.

The incident has sent shockwaves among people in the region, with the Shraddha Walker murder case of 2022 still fresh in their memory.

Walker was killed by her live-in partner who chopped her body into pieces before dumping them in the jungle in South Delhi’s Mehrauli.
