Kathmandu (PTI): A Manang Air helicopter with six people aboard went missing near Mount Everest in Nepal on Tuesday, aviation authorities said.
According to Tribhuvan International Airport General Manager Pratap Babu Tiwari, the chopper, with call sign 9N-AMV, went contactless 15 minutes into the flight.
The chopper had taken off from Surki in Solukhumbu for the capital Kathmandu at 9:45 am, the Kathmandu Post newspaper quoted Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal Information Officer Gyanendra Bhul as saying.
According to initial reports, the helicopter was carrying a total of six individuals. It was piloted by Senior Captain Chet Gurung, the Himalayan Times newspaper quoted a source as saying.

Manipal: The Manipal police arrested two accused within 11 hours of registering a bike theft case following a swift investigation.
The accused have been identified as Sharath (26) and Ganesh (31), residents of Netaji Nagar in 80 Badagabettu village.
According to police, a complaint was filed after a motorcycle belonging to Sudarshan was stolen on February 21. The bike had been parked near Veera Maruti Bhajana Mandir in Rahul Nagar, Badagabettu village.
According to the complaint, police traced and arrested the accused and recovered the stolen motorcycle from their possession. The duo was later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
Police said over 11 theft cases have been registered against the accused at various police stations, including Manipal, Udupi City, Bhadravati, Koppa, Thirthahalli, Madikeri and Tumakuru.
Further investigation is under way.
