Islamabad, Sep 1 : Justice Tahira Safdar was sworn in as the first woman chief justice in Pakistan's Balochistan High Court on Saturday.

She is the first woman ever to take the position of a chief justice in a Pakistan high court, the Dawn reported.

She was sworn in at a ceremony held at the Governor House in Balochistan. Senior judges and lawyers were present during the ceremony.

Safdar made history in 1982 when she became the first woman civil judge in Balochistan.

She is currently a member of the three-judge special court conducting the trial of former President Pervez Musharraf for committing treason by proclaiming a state of emergency on November 3, 2007.

Dubai: An explosion was heard over Dubai International Airport on Saturday, followed by a cloud of smoke in the air, according to a witness who spoke to AFP, as Iran continued attacks across the Gulf region.

The flight-tracking website Flightradar24 showed several aircraft circling above the airport in what appeared to be a holding pattern.

Meanwhile, the Dubai Media Office said in a post on X that there had been “a minor incident resulting from the fall of debris after an interception.”

In the same post, authorities also denied reports circulating online about a direct strike on the airport.

Further details about the incident were not immediately available.
