TasteAtlas, a popular food and travel guide, has stirred debate with its latest release of the "100 Worst Rated Foods in the World" list, as of January 8, 2025. Based on over half a million ratings, Lapland's Blodpalt, a dumpling made with animal blood, was ranked the worst. However, one inclusion that caught Indian attention was Missi Roti, a beloved Punjabi spiced flatbread, which placed 56th on the list.

Traditionally made with a mix of whole wheat and gram flour, Missi Roti is flavored with spices like red chili, carom seeds, turmeric, and crushed pomegranate seeds. Often served hot with a dollop of ghee, it pairs beautifully with dals and curries, making it a staple of Punjabi cuisine.

The ranking led to strong reactions from Indian food lovers, particularly on Reddit. One user joked, “Missi Roti features in the world’s worst dishes list. We riot!” Others speculated that the critics might have tasted it without a complementary curry, calling the flatbread a "heavenly experience" when paired with classics like dal makhani.

While some questioned the list's credibility, noting a perceived attempt to balance global representation, others defended the dish's cultural significance and flavor. TasteAtlas clarified that its rankings are not definitive judgments but rather reflections of audience opinions.
