London: A UK-based skincare clinic, Harley Street Skin, has introduced an online tool designed to assess whether work-related factors contribute to premature ageing.

Named the "Ageing Jobs Index," the calculator evaluates the impact of stress levels, working conditions, shift patterns, and physical activity on ageing. The clinic claims the tool is based on research from Harvard University, the World Health Organization (WHO), and other institutions.

Users must answer questions about their work habits, including hours spent sitting, stress levels, and exposure to harsh environments or chemicals. The calculator then generates a score out of 100, indicating the level of work-induced ageing.

Below 40: Minor ageing, with mild signs such as fine lines or wrinkles.
40 to 60: Moderate ageing, with deeper wrinkles around the eyes, mouth, and forehead.
80 to 100: Extreme ageing, with risks including grey hair, frown lines, sagging skin, dark circles, and sun spots.

The clinic highlights workplace habits that contribute to premature ageing, such as prolonged screen time, excessive working hours, and sun exposure. Chronic stress is also linked to increased signs of ageing.

To counteract these effects, Harley Street Skin recommends adopting healthier work habits, including maintaining a consistent schedule, prioritising sleep, reducing screen time, managing stress, staying hydrated, eating a nutritious diet, and using sunscreen for outdoor workers.
