New York: US President Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on Indian-origin New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, calling him a “100% Communist Lunatic” after early projections showed Mamdani’s victory in the Democratic primary.

Taking to Truth Social, Trump wrote, “It’s finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor. We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous. He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart, he’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is grovelling over him.”

Trump’s remarks come as Mamdani secured a decisive victory over former Governor Andrew Cuomo, cementing his position as the Democratic nominee for NYC mayor. If elected in November, Mamdani will become the first Muslim and Indian-origin mayor of the city.

Zohran Mamdani, 33, is the son of noted academic Mahmood Mamdani and renowned filmmaker Mira Nair. He is known for his progressive politics and has been backed by several left-leaning figures within the Democratic Party.

Mira Nair, Mamdani’s mother, hails from Odisha and comes from a Punjabi family with roots in Delhi. She is acclaimed for her films and social commentary, while Mahmood Mamdani is an internationally respected scholar.
