Raipur, Aug 6 : Fourteen Maoist guerrillas were killed in a gun battle with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, police said on Monday.

The gun battle occurred when a joint team of Special Task Force of Chhattisgarh Police and the District Reserve Guard headed to Miltkatong area during August 5 night following information about the presence of the Maoists, a police officer told IANS.

The Maoists started firing at the security forces, said the officer, based on reports received at Raipur.

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Deputy Inspector General M. Dinakaran confirmed the deaths and said CRPF personnel had been rushed to the area.

New Delhi (PTI): India on Thursday welcomed the Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas.

The announcement on the deal comes after 15 months of conflict in Gaza.

In its reaction, India hoped that the agreement will lead to a safe and sustained supply of humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza.

"We welcome the announcement of the agreement for the release of hostages and a ceasefire in Gaza," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

"We have consistently called for release of all hostages, ceasefire, and return to a path of dialogue and diplomacy," it said.
