Raipur, April 14: At least 23 Maoists surrendered to police on Saturday in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district, an official said.

They did not bring any weapons.

Superintendent of Police Jitendra Shukla said that of those who surrendered, five had arrest warrants against them, for involvement in serious crimes.

Some of them had been actively associated with the Maoists for nearly a decade, he added.

Baghdad: An attack has reportedly taken place on the Balad Airbase located in Salahuddin province, about 100 kilometers north of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. The incident was reported by Al Jazeera, citing the Kurdistan24 news network based in Baghdad.
 
The Balad Airbase, which was used by the United States during the Iraq war, is one of the largest airbases in the country. According to earlier reports by Iran's Tasnim news agency, two loud explosions were heard at the base. However, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
 
In a related development, a suspected drone strike targeted the former U.S. Victory Base Complex near Baghdad International Airport, Tasnim reported, quoting informed sources.
 
Investigations are currently underway, and security forces remain on high alert in the region following these developments, which come amid heightened tensions in the region.
