CHENNAI: Three members of a family died in Chennai on Monday after they inhaled a gas that emanated from a malfunctioning air conditioner, the police said today. Their neighbours called the police after the family that included a 35-year-old man, his wife and son didn't come out for a long time. The police broke open the door and found the bodies.

The family lived in Thiruvalluvar Nagar at Koyambedu in the city. Initial investigation revealed that the couple had turned on the inverter on Monday night as there was a power cut in the area, the police said.

Kalaburagi: An incident of theft of Rs 18 lakh from an ATM by spraying black paint on the CCTV camera installed inside the kiosk was reported in the city past midnight on Wednesday.

The ATM situated near Poojary Chowk in Bhavani Nagar on Ring Road was also found vandalized by the robbers.

Police sources have said that the robbers sprayed black paint on the CCTV camera before breaking open the cash box of the ATM and looting Rs 18 lakh.

The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Suburban Police Station. Police officers have visited the spot and held an inspection.
