Almora: A three-year-old boy, who was reportedly bitten by red ants in Pausari village of Bageshwar district in Uttarakhand on Thursday afternoon, died within two hours.

Local labourer Bhupesh Ram’s children Priyanshu, aged 5 years, and Sagar, aged 3 years, were playing in the courtyard when both the boys were bitten by red ants, reported Times of India.

Since their health deteriorated immediately, the boys were rushed to the district hospital, but Sagar died on the way. Priyanshu was reportedly discharged the next day, after treatment.

Dr Rahul Mishra, who treated the children, said that the boys had been bitten in several places on the body and had nearly fainted as a result. They were brought to hospital within an hour and a half.

“When I tested them, I found that Sagar had died. We treated Priyanshu,” said the doctor, and added, “Their father said that the children had been bitten by big red ants.”
