New Delhi: Personal data including Aadhar details and mobile numbers of 75 crore Indians have been allegedly placed for sale according to a cybersecurity/ digital risk analysis firm ‘CloudSek,’ reported scroll.in.
The company on Tuesday stated that its digital risk protection platform identified a threat actor named CyboDevil who posted on an underground forum promoting the sale of a comprehensive mobile network consumer database.
Meanwhile, according to another report, another threat actor named UNIT8200 made a similar post on Telegram on January 14. Both CyboDevil and UNIT8200 are associated with the CYBOCREW group, linked to significant breaches targeting various companies.
The allegedly compromised database contains mobile users names, phone numbers, residential addresses, Aadhaar details, and names of their family members. The CYBOCREW group, founded in July 2023, has previously been connected to breaches targeting Netplus Co, Zivame, Giva Co, and a Hyundai data breach affecting 2.1 million individuals.
While the exact method of data breach remains unclear, the threat actors suggested the possibility of exploiting vulnerabilities within government databases or telecommunication systems. When questioned about the data's origin, CYBOCREW claimed to have obtained it through undisclosed asset work within law enforcement channels, raising concerns about the legitimacy and ethical considerations of such practices.
CloudSek's report highlighted the potential risks associated with these leaks, emphasizing the possibility of sophisticated ransomware attacks or data exfiltration. The company provided screengrabs of the posts on Telegram and the underground forum but did not confirm independent verification of the dataset.
In December, Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar reported 165 data breaches of Indian citizens between January 2018 and October 2023.
Chandrasekhar asserted that no Aadhaar data breaches occurred from the Central Identities Data Repository maintained by the Unique Identification Authority of India. However, the report emphasizes the need for further scrutiny to validate the claims and assess the potential implications of such data sourcing practices.

Washington: US President Donald Trump has said he has not yet considered whether he would continue the ceasefire involving Iran, while also claiming the United States holds the advantage in negotiations.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said he was prepared to make a deal with “whoever is running the show” in Iran.
“They are fighting with each other, there’s tremendous infighting. They’re probably fighting for leadership in many cases. I think they’re fighting not to be leader because we knocked out two levels of leaders,” he said.
Trump added, “When they want they can call me. We have all the cards, we’ve won everything.”
Referring to ongoing negotiations, he said, “They gave us a paper that should’ve been better. And, interestingly, immediately when I cancelled it [envoy trip to Pakistan], within 10 minutes we got a new paper that was much better.”
“We talked about they will not have a nuclear weapon, very simple … They offered a lot, but not enough,” he added.
When asked whether he would continue the ceasefire, Trump replied, “I haven’t even thought about it.”
The remarks come as uncertainty remains over the future of the temporary truce and broader negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
