Ahmedabad: The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has submitted its preliminary report on the Air India Flight 171 crash to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and other concerned authorities. The report is based on the initial findings of the ongoing investigation, ANI reported.

On June 12, Air India flight 171, which was en route to London from Ahmedabad, crashed into a hostel building just 30 seconds after take-off. The tragic incident claimed the lives of over 200 people.

Meanwhile, a parliamentary panel met with senior officials from the Civil Aviation Ministry, as well as representatives from major airlines and airports. During the meeting, several MPs raised questions about the progress of the investigation and the timeline for analysing the aircraft’s black boxes.

Sources said the meeting, held by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chaired by senior Congress leader K C Venugopal, also addressed concerns over a sharp rise in airfares to Srinagar after the Pahalgam terror attack in April. Additionally, some members demanded an audit of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS).

Top airline officials, including Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson, were reportedly present at the meeting.

Bengaluru: Kengeri Police have arrested a 32-year-old married civil engineer for allegedly cheating a woman software engineer of ₹1.53 crore under the pretext of marriage, officials said.

The accused has been identified as Vijesh B, alias Vijay Raj Gowda, a resident of Kengeri and a native of Tumakuru, The New Indian Express reported on Tuesday.

According to police, the 29-year-old victim met the accused on a matrimonial website in 2024. He claimed to be running multiple businesses in the city and reportedly told her that he owned assets worth ₹715 crore in Bengaluru. He persuaded her to invest in a joint business venture, through which he allegedly collected ₹1.53 crore from her in phases, while also promising to marry her.

He claimed that cases had been registered against him following Enforcement Directorate raids and that his bank accounts had been frozen. To support his claims, he allegedly showed her forged court documents, police said.

Police said Vijay Raj later took the victim to his house to introduce her to his family members, during which he introduced his wife as his sister. The victim later discovered that the woman was his wife and that he also had a child.

When the victim demanded the return of her money, the accused allegedly repaid ₹22 lakh but threatened to kill her and her friends if she continued to press for the remaining amount, police said.

Based on the complaint, Kengeri police registered a case and arrested the accused. Further investigation is under way.
