Accused in attack on Chennai policeman shot dead
Chennai, July 3: One of the suspects in an attack on a policeman here was shot dead late on Tuesday when he tried to attack police with a sharp-edged weapon, police said.
According to police, Anandan was one of the suspects in the attack on police head constable Rajavelu on Monday night.
On Tuesday after a tip off about Anandan, police tried to apprehend him.
When police sought to look for the walkie talkie taken away from Rajavelu the previous day, Anandan took a long knife and attacked the police officials.
Despite several warning to drop the weapon, Anandan refused and tried to attack the officials, who were forced to shoot him down in self defence, a police official said.
On Monday night, police received a complaint about a group of persons creating ruckus. Rajavelu reached the spot and tried to disperse the group that was drinking liquor.
The group started attacking Rajavelu, injuring him seriously in head.
Later, police arrested six persons in connection with the attack.
