Bengaluru/Amaravati, Feb 18: Telugu Desam Party leader Nandamuri Taraka Ratna, who was undergoing treatment here at Narayana Hrudayalaya, passed away on Saturday, family sources said.

Taraka Ratna (39) was admitted to the hospital after he suffered a massive heart attack during a political rally in Chittoor in the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

He had collapsed while participating in the launch of the state-wide 'padayatra' of TDP General Secretary Nara Lokesh on January 27 at Kuppam.

After preliminary treatment in a nearby hospital, he was flown to Bengaluru for further treatment at the Narayana Hrudayalaya.

Sources said he was in an extremely critical condition ever since he was admitted to the hospital and he breathed his last on Saturday.

Taraka Ratna was the grandson of legendary film actor and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister late N T Rama Rao and son of Nandamuri Mohan Krishna.

He is survived by his wife Alekhya and a daughter, family sources said.

Taraka Ratna had also acted in a few Telugu movies as well including his debut 'Okato Number Kurraadu' (in 2002) before venturing into politics. However, he could not make it big on the silver screen like some of his cousins like Junior NTR of 'RRR' fame.

Telugu film star Chiranjeevi tweeted, "Deeply saddened to learn of the tragic premature demise of #NandamuriTarakaRatna. Such bright, talented, affectionate young man...gone too soon! Heartfelt condolences to all the family members and fans! May his Soul Rest in Peace!".

New Delhi, May 19 (PTI): The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the criminal proceedings against Karnataka BJP MLC C T Ravi for his alleged derogatory remarks against minister Laxmi Hebbalkar inside the Belagavi legislative council last year.

An FIR was lodged against Ravi under BNS Sections 75 (sexual harassment) and 79 (outraging the modesty of a woman) in December 2024.

A bench of Justices M M Sundresh and Rajesh Bindal stayed the proceedings after hearing submissions on the lawyer representing Ravi.

The BJP leader has challenged an order of the Karnataka High Court rejecting his petition seeking to quash the criminal proceedings initiated against him.

Earlier this month, the high court observed that if the alleged remark or gesture was indeed directed at the complainant woman, it could be construed as outraging her modesty.

The top court in an interim order stayed the proceedings against Ravi and also sought a reply from the state government on his plea.

Ravi's counsel argued as remarks were alleged to made during the legislative council’s proceedings on December 19, 2024, his client had constitutional immunity.

The Civil Procedure Code provisions also bar the arrest of members during parliamentary sessions and for up to 40 days after the sessions, his plea said.

Ravi was arrested by local police from the premises of Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi on December 19.
