A day after tendering his resignation from NDTV, Journalist Ravish Kumar released a video on his YouTube channel speaking about the current state of journalism in the country.

In a video that is garnering wide response and has got nearly 3 lakh views and 25,000 comments within three hours of upload, Ravish Kumar noted that there was never a golden age in journalism sector of this country but there never graver scenarios than the current one as well.

"With crisis, I mean a time when every good thing about the profession is being systematically destroyed. A lot of channels with different names are running in the country but all of them are part of the "Godi Media" nexus" Ravish said in his video.

"The people who are part of the system that is destroying the ecosystem of journalism are themselves claiming to be journalists and claim of doing journalism," he added.

Speaking about his journey at the NDTV, Ravish said he doesn't want to talk much about the channel as he has spent over 26 years working for NDTV.

"When you are emotional, you cannot consolidate your thoughts, gratitude for people who have worked with you. You cannot get objective when you are emotional." He said.

"There are a lot of great memories at the NDTV which I will cherish forever. It's difficult to name one person on this occasion when there have people so many people who have been a part of this journey." He further said.

He also recalled the times when he joined NDTV as a translator and how he used to work on daily wages and read hundreds of letters everyday that were sent by viewers to the channel.

"It was only possible at the NDTV that letter reader could become the group editor of the channel who is resigning today. A lot of powerful entities were trying to put one journalist away, and I knew the day would come. It doesn't feel good but there isn't anything we can do about it." Ravish said.

He also thanked the audience for contributing to his success and counted the number of ways in which people contributed to his shows and content that went into the Prime Time. "It was not my Prime Time, it was your Prime Time," he added.

Speaking about the essence the genuine audience brings to the ecosystem of the journalism, Ravish said that it is the people who are holding the fort for truthful journalism. He added, "At a time when the democracy is threatened, when the judiciary is questionable, it is the people who have backed truthful journalism and has got our back."

During his video, Ravish expressed optimism that people of the country would bring back the glory of the democracy and lauded how people are today aware of the scenario. He also added that Shaheen Bagh and Famer Protests were ray of hopes for the democracy of the country.

"Some people today believe they have over taken the media, they have destroyed the opposition. It is true in some sense, but it is not going to be the same forever. One day when people will get over the hatred, they will look for a different ground, and they will remember a journalist." Ravish said in his video.

In his video, he also spoke about how the media industry is male-dominated and expressed his gratitude to all his female colleagues and women that have played a role in his life. He also urged the young journalists to honor and acknowledge the talent and abilities of their female counterparts.

Evidently emotional Ravish towards the end of the video said he doesn't know what will he be doing at 9 pm when usually he used be airing his Prime Time show.

In his message to journalist and students of the journalism, Ravish said it is going to be a long struggle in the profession as now there isn't an institutional place likr NDTV where they can work and where their honesty and ethics will be supported.

He added "The journalists should not stop speaking. We should remember we are from a country that brought the British Empire to its knees. There's no reason for me to believe that you will never come out of this Godi Media mindset. I believe you cannot be chained in that mindset forever. This everybody's fight. If you don't fight, you will only be labelled as the slaves of Godi media." Ravish added.

Speaking about his plans, Ravish said his plans for the future are not specific but he was motivated. He added that he will be active on his YouTube channel but wants to spend more time with his family.

He ended the video with his iconic line that he used to say at the beginning of his shows at the NDTV - Namaskar, main Ravish Kumar.

Bengaluru: Leader of Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashoka has accused the Congress government of using the hijab issue to placate what he described as discontent among minority voters after the Davanagere by-election.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Ashoka alleged that the state government, instead of addressing issues such as price rise, corruption, farmers’ distress and law and order, was attempting to retain its minority vote base by reviving the hijab issue.

Referring to the 2022 dress code introduced by the BJP government, which prohibited hijab in schools and colleges, Ashoka said the Karnataka High Court had upheld the policy and emphasised the importance of discipline in educational institutions.

He questioned the Congress government’s move to revisit the issue and asked whether setting aside the court-backed policy to benefit one community could be described as secularism.

Ashoka further alleged that while the government was willing to permit hijab, it continued to prohibit saffron shawls.

He accused the government of dividing students on religious lines rather than treating schools and colleges as spaces of equality.

Drawing a comparison with Mamata Banerjee’s government in West Bengal, Ashoka claimed that excessive appeasement politics had harmed the state and warned that the Congress in Karnataka could face a similar political response.

He said voters in Karnataka would teach the Congress a lesson for what he termed “vote-bank politics” and for compromising constitutional and judicial principles.
