Mumbai, Nov 2 : National carrier Air India cancelled a Jeddah-bound flight from the city via Hyderabad late Friday night, eight hours after its scheduled departure time and without offering any reason to around 300 harried passengers.
Flight AI 965 was scheduled to take off at 1500 hrs but the airline informed the passengers only at around 2300 hrs that it was being pulled out of operations.
A harried passenger, VKS Menon, who was flying with his wife and his elderly mother-in-law to Hyderabad, told PTI that the airline staff were not forthcoming in offering any explanation for the inordinate delay.
The staff finally announced that they were cancelling the flight around 2300 hrs, he said.
Though the airline offered hotel accommodation or taxi fares to the stranded passengers, it did not confirm the next flight details or details about refunds.
The AI spokesperson was not available for comments about the cancellation.

New Delhi (PTI): The Congress on Thursday released its second list of 37 candidates for the April 9 Kerala Assembly polls.
The Congress has fielded T O Mohanan from the Kannur Assembly seat, from where veteran leader K Sudhakaran was seeking the party ticket.
Sudhakaran is the Congress MP from the Kannur Lok Sabha constituency.
Among the other candidates named in the Congress's second list are K Neelakandan from Uduma, Sandeep Varier from Trikaripur, Rajeevan Kappachery from Kalliasseri and Chandran Thillenkeri from Mattannur.
T P Shaji has been fielded from Pattambi, P Harigovindan from Shornur and Ajay Mohan from Kunnamkulam.
The Congress released its first list of 55 candidates for the Kerala polls on Tuesday.
The opposition party has now declared candidates for all the 92 seats it is contesting in the southern state.
Despite indications of interest from senior leaders, no MP has been fielded for the Kerala Assembly election.
