Bulandshar: In the early hours of June 1, nearly a dozen idols of Hindu deities were vandalised in four temples located in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place in Baral village, Bulandshahr district. A video of the vandalised idols was shared on social media, with some users claiming it was an attack on Hindus and suggesting involvement of the Muslim community. News media channels also showed the same side of the story.
Twitter user हम लोग We The People (@ajaychauhan41) who frequently circulates communal misinformation on social media, shared the video, insinuating that the act was committed by "Jihadis," referring to the Muslim community. Another Twitter user, BALA (@erbmjha), who is followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Twitter, also shared the video, expressing concern over the attack on Hindu culture and temples wrote, “ They are attacking our culture, They they area (sic) attacking our temples, They are attacking our daughters, Meanwhile, we are only allowed to seat in the backseat and watch as our destruction unfolds, or else we will be labelled as intolerant, communal and so on!” The tweet has garnered over 6 lakh views and has been retweeted over 1,000 times.
In the meantime, mainstream broadcast media also joined in propagating the story, Zee Uttar Pradesh Uttarakhand (@ZEEUPUK) shared a video clip on Twitter where they invited guests from different political parties to discuss the idol destruction incident in Bulandshahr. Sudhir Chaudhuri from Aaj Tak also covered the matter on his show Black and White, providing population data based on religion in Bulandshahr and mentioning another crime unrelated to the temple vandalism.
In addition, Chaudhury in his show highlighted a recent crime in the same district where a 20-year-old man named Sahil Khan was arrested for brutally stabbing his 16-year-old girlfriend 34 times. He also shared the live stream of the show on Aaj Tak with a caption in Hindi, which read as “In #Bulandshahar temples, Shivling have been broken, however there is a silence in the country. Isn't secularism in danger now?”
Meanwhile, A fact check by Altnews.com revealed that four individuals, identified as Harish Sharma, Shivam, Keshav, and Ajay, all residents of Baral, were arrested in connection with the idol vandalization. The accused confessed that they had damaged the idols, which were being worshipped, with the intention of installing new ones. The Bulandshahr police confirmed the arrest of the four accused, stating that Harish Sharma was the main perpetrator and that they were all intoxicated during the act.
Aaj Tak later updated their report, confirming that the miscreants responsible for the temple vandalism were Hindus from the same village. Additionally, Chaudhry also shared the updated video on social media, emphasising the Hindu identity of the culprits.
In conclusion, the fact checks by Alt news team reports that the individuals who vandalised the idols in four temples in Bulandshahr have been arrested. All four perpetrators are Hindus, as confirmed by the authorities.

Panambur: A man who allegedly came armed to attack another person was caught by members of the public and later handed over to police in Jokatte late on Friday night.
The accused has been identified as Naveen Poojari, originally from Vamanjoor and presently residing in Jokatte.
According to police sources, Naveen was married and has an eight-year-old son. The couple are now divorced.
Police said Naveen suspected that his former wife, who is employed at a showroom in Padil, was moving closely with Devi Prasad Acharya, a mechanic working there.
Based on this suspicion, Naveen allegedly went to the house of Devi Prasad Acharya on Friday night carrying a deadly weapon, created a scene and issued threats.
During the incident, Devi Prasad Acharya reportedly contacted the 112 emergency helpline, following which Naveen fled from the spot.
While escaping, Naveen is said to have fallen from his two-wheeler near the Jokatte Panchayat area. Local residents who rushed to help noticed a deadly weapon on the vehicle and immediately alerted police.
Officials from Panambur Police Station rushed to the spot, took Naveen into custody and brought him to the station.
A case has been registered based on the complaint filed by Devi Prasad Acharya, and further action is under way.
