New Delhi: Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) on Wednesday welcomed the decision of the Rajasthan High Court (HC) to acquit four Muslim men who were previously sentenced to death in 2008 Jaipur serial bomb blast case.
The HC while acquitting Sarvar Aazmi, Mohammad Saif, Saifur Rahman, and Salman, has also ordered a probe against the police and the ATS for failing to provide credible evidence against them. The HC also directed the Director General of Rajasthan Police to initiate appropriate Enquiry/Disciplinary Proceedings against the erring officers of the Investigating Team.
In a press release, APCR, which has contested the claims of investigating agencies on behalf of the four acquitted men, said, “APCR has been at the forefront of fighting for justice for the accused, and our legal team represented the exonerees in court. The recent acquittal has come as a relief to them and their families who have been claiming that the Muslim men were framed in the case.”
Farooq Paker, the former President of APCR Rajasthan Chapter and amicus curiae for all four Muslim men, earlier said, "This is the first case where the death penalty has been awarded on circumstantial evidence. There was no direct evidence, and all four were falsely implicated. Not a single witness could identify any of these four men planting a bomb on the bicycle. Also, the bicycle purchase bill produced in court is different from the frame number of the bicycle used in the bomb blast."
Advocate Syed Sadat Ali, President of APCR Rajasthan and part of the legal team representing the exonerees said, "The case pertains to the Jaipur Bomb Blast of 2008, and the ATS theory had plenty of loopholes with glaring lapses in the investigation, and the earlier judgment of the lower court was a perfect example of the institutional failure of administering justice."
He further added, "We are thankful to the honorable High Court of Rajasthan for breathing new hopes into the judicial system through this acquittal order."
“APCR remains committed to fighting for justice and ensuring that the judicial system is fair and unbiased. We hope that this verdict will serve as a reminder to law enforcement agencies to conduct thorough and impartial investigations and that justice prevails in all cases,” the press statement added.

Saharsa (PTI): More than 150 children were taken ill after allegedly consuming food that was part of the mid-day meal in a school in Bihar’s Saharsa district, a senior official said on Thursday.
The incident occurred at a middle school in Baluaha village of the district.
The official said that 115 children were undergoing treatment at the Sadar Hospital, while around 50 students were admitted to Mahishi Public Health Centre.
“We received information that several children fell ill after consuming the mid-day meal in Baluaha. The children were initially treated at the primary health centre, but later, many were referred to the Sadar Hospital,” Saharsa District Magistrate Deepesh Kumar told reporters.
“According to doctors, the health condition of the children has improved, but they will be kept under observation for some time. There is no need to panic. Some kids are having mild fever. They are being treated accordingly,” Kumar said.
Meanwhile, family members of some children claimed that a snake was found in the container in which cooked pulses was stored at the school.
Of the 545 students present in the school, 200 had already eaten their meals by the time the snake was spotted, and later complained of stomach ache and vomiting, they said.
Regarding the claims, the DM said food samples have been collected from the school.
“We will be able to comment on this only after the results of the tested samples arrive,” he said.
