Jodhpur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday described the abrogation of Article 370 and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) as significant examples of constitutional integration and humane legislation. Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the Rajasthan High Court’s platinum jubilee celebrations in Jodhpur, Modi stressed on the importance of these actions in reinforcing national unity and justice.
"The abrogation of Article 370 is a clear example of constitutional integration, while the CAA represents a humane approach to law," Modi stated. He also siad that such measures reflect a commitment to national interest and are supported by judicial principles across all levels of the Indian judiciary.
PM Modi also spoke on the need for simplifying the justice delivery system in India. He criticised the complexities introduced by procedures and highlighted recent reforms, including the repeal of colonial-era laws and the introduction of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The BNS replaces the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and is designed to promote justice over mere punishment, PM Mod saidi.
The Prime Minister further noted advancements in judicial modernisation, with over 18,000 courts across India now computerized, and more than 3,000 court complexes and 1,200 jails equipped with video conferencing facilities.
Additionally, Modi reiterated his support for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), a position he recently articulated on August 15 from the Red Fort.
The Prime Minister’s remarks were delivered during a ceremony marking the Rajasthan High Court’s 75 years of service, where he outlined the government's efforts to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of justice in India.
