New Delhi: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has come under criticism from the opposition for its latest political advertisement, which parodies leaders of the INDIA bloc. Opposition leaders have denounced the ad, asserting that it diminishes the role of women in society.
The advertisement features actors portraying various leaders from the Opposition alliance, including Rahul Gandhi, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Arvind Kejriwal, and Uddhav Thackeray, among others. Notably, a woman is depicted dressed as a bride, while the INDIA bloc leaders engage in a heated argument over who will be her groom, suggesting the Opposition's purported indecision over leadership.
In response, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate criticized the ad, emphasizing the sanctity of marriage and condemning the portrayal of women as mere objects of matrimony. She expressed dismay over the BJP's portrayal of women's roles, stating that it reflects a regressive mindset that undermines the essence of democracy.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi echoed similar sentiments, condemning the ad as a derogatory depiction of women's roles in society. She asserted that the advertisement perpetuates stereotypical notions of women solely focused on finding a groom, rather than engaging in political decision-making.
Chaturvedi further emphasized the importance of recognizing the distinction between personal relationships and democratic participation, highlighting the need to uphold the principles of democracy and gender equality.
In an interview with India Today TV, Chaturvedi labeled the ad as unfortunate and emphasized its detrimental impact on women's empowerment and societal perceptions.
