The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has suspended spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal from the party's primary membership over controversial/insulting remarks on Islam and Prophet Mohammed during a TV show.

A communication to Sharma from the party's disciplinary committee said she has expressed views contrary to the party's position on various matters, which is in clear violation of its constitution.

"Pending further inquiry, you are suspended from the party and from your responsibilities, assignments if any, with immediate effect," it said.

The action was taken after Sharma's alleged comments on Prophet Muhammad during a television show. Her statement had drawn protests and led to violence in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur.

Hashtags calling for the boycott of Indian products are trending on Twitter in Arab countries after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma allegedly made some inflammatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed. The Grand Mufti of Oman along with Twitter handles with a large following have called for the boycott.

The boycott tweets also included a scathing attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

New Delhi: In a recent development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's photograph has been omitted from CoWIN certificates issued for COVID-19 vaccinations. These certificates, traditionally featuring PM Modi's image alongside a motivational quote, now display only the quote with an attribution to the Prime Minister, albeit without his name.

The removal of the Prime Minister's photograph from the certificates has stirred conversation on social media platforms. It's noteworthy that similar instances occurred during previous State Assembly elections when the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was enforced, resulting in the removal of Modi's image from CoWIN certificates in specific states.

The significance of the Prime Minister's photograph on vaccination certificates was previously underscored by Bharati Pravin Pawar, the then-Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare. In an August 2021 response to the Rajya Sabha, Pawar highlighted that the inclusion of M Modi's photo aimed to reinforce awareness about adhering to COVID-19 appropriate behavior post-vaccination, emphasizing its importance in the broader public interest.
