Bomb explosion before Manipur CM's visit to Kangpokpi district
Imphal, Oct 19 : Unidentified miscreants triggered a powerful blast at a market place in Manipur's Kangpokpi district, few hours before Chief Minister N Biren Singh's scheduled visit there, police said on Friday.
The blast took place near the post office at Kangpokpi Bazaar, under the jurisdiction of Kangpokpi police station, shortly after Thursday midnight, the police said.
The blast occurred at around 1.10 am and there was no report of any casualty, a senior police officer told PTI, adding, only two cars were damaged in the incident.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh was supposed to visit a place near Kangpokpi Bazar on Friday to lay the foundation stone for construction of a women's market, and a transit accommodation for doctors and teachers, officials said.
The chief minister's programme was scheduled to start from 10 am Friday and it was not postponed due to the blast, they said.
Located around 45 km away from the state capital Imphal, the site of the blast is hardly one km away from where chief minister N Biren Singh and Social Welfare Minister Nemcha attended the programme on Friday, the officials said.
Meanwhile, the state police have stepped up security to ensure that such violent activities do not happen in future, the police officer said.
An investigation has been initiated, the police officer added.

Man arrested in Hyderabad for impersonating police officer using AI videos
Hyderabad (PTI): A 27-year-old man was arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly impersonating a police official and uploading fabricated videos on social media platforms to gain followers, police said on Wednesday.
The accused, who worked as a delivery executive with a food delivery aggregator, created and circulated misleading videos using AI-based software.
He falsely depicted himself as a police official and showcased weapons, potentially causing panic and misleading the public, a release from Hyderabad Police said.
Police said it came to their notice that fake videos were being circulated on social media, showing individuals posing as police personnel and displaying weapons.
Upon preliminary inquiry, it was found that the videos were fabricated using AI software and did not represent any real police activity.
The accused unlawfully impersonated a police official and created deceptive digital content, which is a punishable offence under relevant provisions of law.
Such acts can erode public trust and create unnecessary alarm, the release said.
Acting on credible information, police teams apprehended the accused and seized a mobile phone used in the offence.
A case under relevant sections of the BNS and the IT Act, 2000, was registered at Kalapathar Police Station.
Further investigation is underway to determine whether any other persons were involved in the creation and dissemination of such content, police added.
