Mumbai: The upcoming consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya has sparked controversy as Bollywood actors Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor officially received invitations to attend the event. The move comes amid ongoing criticism of Kapoor for his dietary choices, particularly being labeled a beef-eater.

Ranbir Kapoor has faced scrutiny and calls for boycott from the right-wing Hindutva ecosystem due to his admission of being a beef-eater in an old interview. The controversy had escalated during the release of his movie "Brahmastra," with Hindutva campaigners calling for a boycott.

During the boycott campaign for his film Brahmastra, the right-wing users had labelled Ranbir as “big beef guy’ (a reference to what Ranbir said in the interview “I am a big beef guy”).

The recent invitation to the ceremony has further fueled discontent within the right-wing community, questioning the decision to invite Kapoor and his wife, Alia Bhatt, to the religious event. Some critics have raised objections to Alia Bhatt's inclusion, citing her father's perceived stance as "anti-Hindu."

According to a statement from producer Mahaveer Jain, both actors are set to attend the ceremony scheduled for January 22. The statement highlighted that representatives from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) extended the invitation during a meeting with the actors.

The controversy surrounding the invitation adds a layer of tension to the much-anticipated Ram temple consecration ceremony. Despite the objections, other Bollywood personalities, including Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Sunny Deol, Prabhas, Madhuri Dixit, Anupam Kher, and Akshay Kumar, are also expected to be present at the event, as per sources.
