New Delhi: The central government has imposed a ban on 14 mobile apps across the country that were being used by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir to communicate with their supporters from Pakistan, reports NDTV.
According to some media reports, these banned apps include Crypviser, Enigma, Safeswiss, Wickrme, Mediafire, Briar, BChat, Nandbox, Conion, IMO, Element, Second line, Zangi, Threema among others.
The action was reportedly recommended by the security and intelligence agencies . A list of apps that pose a threat to national security and go against Indian laws were submitted with a request to ban to a concerned ministry. These apps have been blocked under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, the official added.
This is not the first time that the Indian government has imposed a ban on mobile apps. Last year, India ordered the banning of numerous Chinese apps accusing them of being "prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of the state and public order."
