Chandigarh: In a tragic incident, an 11-year-old boy named Shahbaz Singh from Nawanshahr, Punjab, died after falling from a toy train at Elante Mall on Saturday night. The child sustained severe head injuries and succumbed to them despite receiving treatment at GMCH-32.

The accident occurred around 9:30 PM when Shahbaz and his cousin were riding the toy train. They were seated in the last compartment, which overturned during the ride, causing Shahbaz to fall and suffer critical head injuries. His cousin escaped unhurt. Shahbaz was immediately rushed to GMCH-32 for treatment but unfortunately did not survive.

Following the incident, Industrial Area Phase-1 police registered a case against the toy train operator, Saurav, and the mall management under relevant sections of the IPC, based on the complaint lodged by Shahbaz's father, Jatinder Pal Singh. The police have launched an investigation, but no arrests have been made so far.

Shahbaz's body was handed over to his grieving parents after a postmortem on Sunday evening. The family, including Shahbaz's parents and his cousin's family, had traveled to Chandigarh for an outing when the tragic accident occurred.

Mumbai (PTI): Police have arrested a man and seized over 500 grams of heroin worth Rs 2.54 crore in the illicit market from him in Mumbai, officials said on Friday.

The police's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) made the drug seizure in Santacruz in the western suburbs. The operation was conducted by the Kandivali unit of the ANC on Thursday as part of a special crackdown against drug trafficking in the area, they said.

Acting on specific inputs, an ANC team conducted a raid in Santacruz (East) and intercepted a man. During a search, the team recovered 508 grams of high-grade heroin from his possession, an official said.

The seized contraband, a highly addictive, opioid drug derived from morphine, is estimated to be worth Rs 2.54 crore in the international market, he informed.

Following the seizure, a case was registered against the man under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and he was formally placed under arrest in the early hours of Friday.

The police are currently investigating the source of the drug and trying to identify the intended recipients of the consignment, he said.
