Raipur (PTI): Chhattisgarh capital Raipur will soon get direct air connectivity with Singapore and Dubai with Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu accepting the demand raised by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.

Sai met Naidu Wednesday in New Delhi and discussed strengthening the air connectivity and development of regional airports in the state, the public relations department said in a statement in Raipur.

The chief minister requested the Union minister to grant international status to Swami Vivekanand Airport, Raipur, emphasising that the move will encourage the economic development of Chhattisgarh and bolster air connectivity.

Sai also discussed the need for direct flights between Raipur and Singapore and Raipur and Dubai.

"As the passenger traffic on these routes is quite good, these services will prove to be commercially beneficial," Sai was quoted as saying.

Naidu consented to start international air service from Swami Vivekanand Airport soon, the Chhattisgarh government stated.

Naidu has also assured the chief minister to look into his demand for developing Raipur airport as a central cargo hub, it said.

The Chief Minister raised a demand for introducing new flights to connect Ambikapur Airport with major cities like Raipur, Varanasi, Prayagraj and Ayodhya, it said.

Sai also demanded restoring financial support for RCS (regional connectivity scheme) flights at Jagdalpur and Bilaspur airports. He said that increasing connectivity on these routes will help in regional development, it said.

The flight service operated by IndiGo Airlines between Jagdalpur and Raipur was stopped due to a shortage of passengers, the chief minister told Naidu and urged him to restore the service citing the immense tourism potential in Bastar.

A proposal for upgrading Bilaspur airport to the 3C IFR category was also put forward by the CM in the meeting, the statement said.

The Union Civil Minister has directed officials to start the night landing facility at Bilaspur airport, it added.

Mumbai (PTI): Four members of a family in Pydhonie area of south Mumbai died last month due to rat poison, police officials said on Thursday.

The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report has confirmed the presence of zinc phosphide in viscera (liver, kidney, spleen), stomach contents, bile, and abdominal fat samples of the deceased identified as Abdulla Dokadia (44), his wife Nasrin (35) and their daughters Aayesha (16) and Zaineb (13), said Deputy Commissioner of Police Pravin Mundhe.

"The watermelon sample also tested positive for zinc phosphide, while all other food items were negative. The report will be studied in depth. We will consult forensic doctors. Further probe in the case is underway," the DCP said.

Zinc phosphide is used primarily as a highly toxic acute rodenticide to control rats and mice.

"The forensic experts who examined the viscera of deceased Abdulla Dokadia, Nasrin (35), Aayesha (16) and Zaineb (13) found traces of zinc phosphide. It is, however, unclear whether the rat poison was consumed accidentally (or on purpose). So far, we have found no strong reason why the whole family would take such an extreme step," another official said.

Further probe is being conducted by the JJ Marg police station, which has recorded statements of kin and neighbours, he added.

The Dokadia family, residents of Ghari Mohalla on Ismail Kurte Road, had hosted a get-together of relatives on the night of April 25. At around 1 am, hours after the guests had left, Abdullah Dokadia, his wife Nasreen, and daughters Ayesha and Zaineb ate pieces of a watermelon.

They suffered severe bouts of vomiting and diarrhoea in the early hours of April 26 and were rushed to a local hospital before being referred to the government-run J J Hospital where all four died during treatment.
