Bhopal: Celebrations following India’s triumph in the 2025 Champions Trophy turned violent in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, as communal tensions escalated late Sunday night.
The unrest began around 10:30 p.m. in the Jama Masjid area over a dispute regarding firecrackers. What started as a celebration quickly turned into stone-pelting, spreading to multiple areas, including Manak Chowk, Patti Bazaar, and Market Chowk. Despite a heavy police presence, the violence continued, with some miscreants brandishing weapons.
Reports indicate that the violence escalated, with shops and vehicles set ablaze. The situation worsened with the alleged use of petrol bombs. To restore order, police resorted to lathi charges and fired tear gas shells.
Officials confirmed that two houses, four shops, and multiple vehicles were damaged in the violence. Unverified reports suggest that over a dozen vehicles were torched or vandalized.
Additional security forces have been deployed, and authorities claim to have brought the situation under control. However, tensions remain high in the area as investigations continue.
