Kolkata: CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya has tested positive for the COVID-19, following which he is in home isolation, health department sources said on Friday.

Bhattacharya (69), a former Kolkata Mayor, has been keeping unwell for quite some time. He gave his samples for the COVID-19 test which turned out to be positive, they said.

"Bhattacharya's report was received on Thursday. He has opted for home isolation. He is okay and his condition is stated to be stable. He has asked all those who came in contact with him to take the test," an official of the health department said.

Incidentally, a couple of days back Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Abdul Mannan tested positive for COVID-19, following which he was admitted to a private hospital in the city.

Bengaluru: Actor Prakash Raj exercised his right to vote during the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 by visiting his polling booth in Bengaluru on April 26. He took to social media to share a video urging fans and followers to also participate in the democratic process.

In the video, he is speaking about voting for change and against hate, expressing his belief in choosing a representative who would voice the concerns of the people in the parliament.

Prakash Raj, known for his work in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Kannada films, further elaborated on the significance of voting in an interview with the media. He also spoke on the importance of selecting a candidate based on their manifesto and one's belief in them, particularly in light of the divisive politics witnessed in recent years.
