Darul Uloom Deoband among 306 madrasas in Saharanpur not recognised by UP Madarsa Board, says survey
Saharanpur (UP), Oct 22: Prominent Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband and other 305 madrasas in Saharanpur district are not recognised by the Uttar Pradesh Madarsa Education Board, according to a government survey.
Madrasas which are not recognized by the Board do not get benefit of government schemes like scholarship, salary for teachers, among others.
District Minority Welfare Officer Bharat Lal Gaur told PTI on Saturday that a total of 754 madrasas are registered in Saharanpur.
The number of unrecognized madrasas in the district is 306, he said, adding the information has been shared with the government as part of its survey on madrasas in the state.
He said Darul Uloom Deobad is not recognized by the Madarsa Board.
Gaur said the government had fixed 12 points, on the basis of which the survey of madrasas was done.
In a statement, Vice Chancellor of Darul Uloom Deoband Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani said the institution has never taken any kind of aid or grant from any government.
The seminary is not registered with the Board but it does educational work according to the Indian Constitution, he said.
Nomani said the 'Shura Society' of the Darul Uloom is registered under the Societies Act and the seminary operates as per the right to freedom of religion under the Constitution.
Darul Uloom Deoband has been doing educational work and serving the country for more than 150 years, but it has never taken any kind of aid or grant from any government, he said.
The Islamic institute in Deobad in Saharanpur was established on September 30, 1866.

Man in Chamarajanagar stabs to death sister, attacks father, sister-in-law after fight over trivial
Chamarajanagar: A man living at the Idgah Mohalla in Kollegala town, Farman Pasha, was arrested for allegedly killing his sister using a knife and also attacking his father and sister-in-law on Wednesday night, following an argument and fight over an apparently trivial issue.
Kollegala Town Police, who visited their house on being informed of the matter and arrested Pasha, said that his younger sister Iman Banu (26), who was gravely injured due to the attack, died on the spot. Pasha also stabbed his father and sister-in-law Tasleema Taj (25), who are being treated at the Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) Hospital.
The officers have said that Pasha was feeding his young niece cucumber, when his sister Iman scolded him for doing so as the child was suffering from fever. While this gave rise to an argument between the siblings, the situation tensed up very soon, resulting in Pasha stabbing his younger sister with a knife in her neck. A grievously injured Iman is learned to have died on the spot.
Syed and Tasleema, who attempted to stop Pasha from stabbing Iman were also attacked with the knife, the police said, adding that, the duo, being seriously injured, is under medical treatment.
