New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested its sub-inspector Sandeep Dahiya who allegedly shot at and injured his female friend here and later killed his father-in-law in Rohtak, officials said.

"Dahiya was arrested from Sector-3, Rohini around 11 am by the joint teams of special staff, cyber cell and Lahori Gate police station," a senior police officer said.

He was traced through electronic surveillance and manual information. The weapon and the vehicle used to commit the offence have been recovered, the officer said.

During interrogation, it was revealed that Dahiya had animosity against his in-laws. He also had some altercation with his woman friend, police said.

On Sunday, while he was with his woman friend, they had a quarrel, after which he shot her and fled, they said.

He went towards Narela and Kundli and reached near Bansi village at night where his wife stayed. He shot his father-in-law in the morning and fled to Kundli and stayed there overnight before being arrested, the officer said.

Dahiya, 35, was posted at Lahori Gate police station from December 21, 2017.

According to the Delhi Police, Dahiya had allegedly shot at his woman friend on Sunday during a quarrel with her in his car in north Delhi's Alipur area.

Another Delhi Police sub-inspector, Jaiveer, posted at Shahbad Dairy police station, had spotted the woman lying on the side of the road while he was crossing the Sai Mandir on the G T Karnal road and had taken her to a nearby hospital.

On the way, the woman had revealed that she has been shot by Dahiya, presently posted at Lahori Gate police station. The woman and Dahiya were having an affair since last year.

He was on the run after this incident and allegedly also shot dead his 60-year-old father-in-law outside his house in Haryana's Rohtak district on Monday morning.

The SI's wife told the Rohtak district police that they had been living separately for some time due to strained marital relations and also alleged that her husband had earlier threatened to kill her father.

The Rohtak Police on Monday had said the victim, identified as Ranbir, was cleaning a drain outside his house when he was shot.

A CCTV camera installed in the street showed an SUV with a Delhi registration number, leaving the area after the crime was committed.

Ranbir was allegedly shot in the forehead and he died within minutes. His family members rushed outside the house and found him lying motionless.

Dahiya had joined the Delhi Police in 2006 as a constable and became a sub-inspector in 2010 after clearing an examination. He was residing at Shalimar Bagh Police Colony.

He was on medical rest for two days and joined duty on Friday. Since he has been the division officer, 9MM pistol with 10 rounds was allotted to him.

Udupi: Two men from Belthangady have been sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in Udupi for attempting to murder a woman in Manchikumeri in 2022.

The sentenced men, Mithun and Nagesh Poojary, are learned to have attempted to murder Sumathi, wife of Ramanath Rai, a resident of Manchikumeri, who had a Nandini Milk Parlour at Tiger Circle, Manipal.

On February 18, 2022, Sumathi was reportedly alone at home when, at around 7 pm, Mithun, learned to be her nephew, and his friend Poojary came to the house. As Sumathi opened the door, the duo barged in and tried to strangulate her with an intention of murdering her. Sumathi reportedly lost consciousness under the attack.

The men packed her body in a sack and were then putting the sack into a suitcase to carry the body out, when they noticed that Rai and neighbours had arrived. They are learned to have opened the door when Rai knocked the door and then tried to escape. They were, however, caught by the neighbours and handed over to the police.

Further, Sumathi was found by the group in an unconscious state inside the suitcase in the house. She was rushed to the Manipal Hospital and learned to have recovered after a week of medical treatment.

A case had been registered at the Manipal Police Station.

The Udupi Principal District and Sessions Court judge Kiran S Gangannavar, who heard the case, has declared both Mithun and Poojary guilty in the case. He has awarded them life imprisonment, fined them Rs 20,000 each and, under Column 325, sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment of 5 years and fined them Rs 5,000 each.

Judge Gangannavar has directed that, of the fine, Rs 45,000 be handed to the attack victim Sumathi as relief.
