Don't lose hope by results in 3 states, LS polls very important: Amit Shah tells BJP workers
New Delhi, Jan 12: BJP chief Amit Shah Saturday asked party workers not to lose hope due to adverse results in recent Assembly elections in the three states, saying the upcoming parliamentary polls were "very important" for the party.
He also asked all party workers to ensure that the votes of their families and friends are cast by 10.30 AM on the polling day.
He mounted an attack on the Congress, saying the "cancer" of casteism, nepotism and appeasement policy was its contribution, which, he said "weakened the democracy and halted development".
"In the elections in the three states (Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh) our opponents won but we were not defeated. The results were not good but we have not lost our ground. The workers need not lose their hope," he said in his address at the BJP's national convention at Ramlila Ground here.
The BJP lost power to the Congress in the three Hindi heartland states in assembly polls held recently.
The meaning of "defeat" is reflected by the Congress which has vanished from states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal, he said.
"Lok Sabha elections are very important for us. If we manage a massive victory, the BJP will rule the country from Panchayat to Parliament for a long time," he said.
He asked his party workers to ensure that every voter is contacted in an intensive campaign for the elections.
Shah asked them to go back to their respective states with a pledge to ensure BJP's victory in the parliamentary elections and make Narendra Modi prime minister for a second term.

Man in Belagavi arrested for murdering 15-day-old daughter by feeding poison
Belagavi: In a murder case reported from Ukkada village of the taluk, a 28-year-old man was held by Kakathi Police on charges of poisoning his 15-day-old daughter, apparently on learning that the infant was female.
The arrested man, Bhimaraya Banappa Chippadi, is said to be a resident of Bhootaramanahatti. He was held by Kakathi Police following an investigation into a case registered against him based on a complaint filed by his wife, Sheela Chippadi, who has accused him of murdering their infant, Priyanka.
Police sources have said that Chippadi was unhappy that his wife Sheela had delivered a female child and had been pressurizing her to leave the infant at her paternal home and return alone.
On Tuesday, March 17 afternoon, Chippadi allegedly poisoned his daughter Priyanka when his wife and child were asleep. A primary investigation has revealed that the accused applied the poison to the opening of a bottle and fed it to the infant.
Chippadi reportedly escaped from the spot after poisoning his daughter.
When his wife Sheela woke up, she noticed the infant foaming at the mouth and immediately took the child to the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) Hospital, but doctors declared Priyanka dead, sources said. The doctors have reportedly suspected that the infant was fed a pesticide used on cotton crops.
Kakathi Police, who registered a case against Chippadi, probed the matter and tracked him down on Friday, March 20.
Chippadi, who was produced before the court, has been sent to judicial custody and is currently lodged in Hindalga jail.
